About the Domec's

Our Favorite Things

This is a way for us to keep track of our family favorites!

Where to play, eat, and stay in NKY!

Feed Me:

Tousey House - Burlington, KY
This restaurant is so cute and cozy. It is downtown Burlington and has a wonderful menu. Guy and I tend to only eat here on special occasions because it is more expensive than chain restaurants. They have an adorable outdoor patio that is perfect during warm weather.

Camino Real - Florence, KY
Great little Mexican restaurant. They have awesome salsa and taco's. They are super friendly to kids too. It's in the old Frishe's so if you are looking for a place that's a little more fancy, don't come here (see Nada below!). It's a local joint. :)

Pompilio's - Newport, KY
Close to Cincy, this Italian restaurant is a local favorite. The movie Rain Man was filmed here! They have delicious food, breads, drinks, and desserts. They are famous for their sauce but I love to get their homemade Ravioli or Tortellini. Order the coke too! It comes in a glass bottle.

Benihana's - Downtown
This isn't a place we visit very often but if you join their Chef's Table newsletter, they email you a $30 gift certificate to use during your birthday month! Guy and I both have January bdays (so does Braylen and we'll sign him up too when he's older) so we used them together and our dinner only cost us $9! It was a very fun birthday date.

Bellevue Bistro - Bellevue, KY
I loved visiting this cafe when I worked downtown. They have the best chicken salad. It's a cute, comfy little cafe that overlooks the main street in Bellevue. They also serve pastries, coffee and tea. Perfect little spot when you're not in a hurry.

Schneider's Sweet Shop -  Bellevue, KY
After you have lunch at the Bistro, walk down to Schneider's Sweet Shop for a special treat! They have all sorts of delicious homemade chocolates and ice cream. They are famous for their opera creams but our favorites are chocolate dipped oreo's and buckeyes. They also serve snow balls in the summer and caramel apples in the fall.

Nada - Walnut Street
This is such a fun place to eat. It's right next to the Aronoff Theater and close to Fountain Square so it's usually busy with people walking by. It's a great mexican restaurant too. They have delicious chicken taco's! A little pricey but worth it!

Bakersfield OTR - Over The Rhine
A cute little taco place off of Vine Street. They serve delicious tacos with fresh, local ingredients. It's a place to go when you're not in a rush and you have time for drinks and conversation. Try the gauc!

So....what's next?
(Braylen says this when we are leaving the house)

Having a membership at the Zoo has been such a wonderful thing for our family. You can go for an hour a few times a week and leave knowing you can go back another time to visit other exhibits. Plus you don't have to stay an entire day to get your money's worth. Other things we like about it: you can pack your lunch, take a train ride around the park, you get a nice work out :), and it's only a 30 minute drive from Florence. Don't forget to visit during the Festival of Lights!

Boone County Library - Main Branch in Florence
The library offers a ton of activities for kids. They have weekly storytimes, crafts, and family events to attend. They also have an awesome kids level with a ton of books and toys to play with. We often visit just to play and browse books. It is a great place to go during the cold winter season.

Cincinnati Museum Center - Children's Museum
There are 3 different museums to visit here: History, Science & Children's. We have a family membership so we have gone to all 3 but we love the Children's. There is so much to do. We love the kid-sized neighborhood and the water play area.

Sawyer Point - Riverfront in Cincy
This park is awesome! There is a walking/running/biking/sight seeing path all along the Cincy river. There are playgrounds, bridges, trees, flowers, etc. We like to go and pack a lunch and eat close to the water. There is usually a festival of some sort going on in the summer so if you go on a Saturday you are likely to hear music! There is also an aquatic fountain where you can run around to your hearts content. Braylen loves it! Bring a towel!

RC Durr YMCA - Burlington, KY
This is a great family gym that has a fairly decent workout area. You can drop your kids off at the child care center and workout of ALONE for 90 minutes. They have an indoor/outdoor swimming pool. We have received a scholarship for the past 3 years. Love  this place!

Playhouse in the Park - Cincinnati
Guy and I have tried to go see a play at least once a year and one of our favorites is the Christmas Story and Playhouse in the Park. The tickets are a little pricey but it's hard to find a bad seat.

Findlay Market - Race Street, Cincinnati
Looking for fresh foods? Go to Findley Market! It's an indoor/outdoor market complete with every fresh, homemade ingredient that you need to complete your meal. Or just stay there and eat! You have to try the Belgium waffles with fresh fruit from Taste of Belgium. So delicious.

Shut Eye:

This is the greatest B&B. Perfect accommodations and cute, comfortable rooms. Gas fireplaces, steam showers, hardwood floors. It's so nice. The breakfast is amazing too. Make sure to get the creme brulee french toast!

Big Bone State Park - Union, KY
We often stay here in my parents camper while they are visiting on the weekends. It is a State Park so they have fun things for kids to do-Trick or Treating, festivals, hiking trails, etc. We like that it is close enough to visit but far enough to feel like you are leaving town.
